TRG’s Eight Car in Four Series – Successful! One-Two at Lime Rock

Motorsport News

TRG’s eight car in four series weekend was a success in three states.  Team owner Kevin Buckler and his team managed to get all eight cars in the four different series to the finish line and had a spectacular result with the team producing a one-two finish at Lime Rock Park.

The Racers Group (TRG) exciting weekend of racing covered seven Porsches and a Ford Fusion running on tracks that measured one-mile-and-a-half, Lime Rock Park in Connecticut and Kentucky Speedway to the 2.1-mile undulating Mazda Raceway Laguna Sea featuring the famous Cork Screw Turn.

The highlight of the weekend was the exciting one-two finish by the team at Lime Rock Park. Dion von Moltke and Mike Piera won the two-hour-and-forty-five-minute race in their No. 68 South African Airways/ PR Newswire/TRG/Porsche in the GTC category. Teammates Duncan Ende and Spencer Pumpelly finished on their tail-pipe in second in their No. 66 Racer’s Roast Fox River Coffee/TRG/Porsche. Von Moltke and Pumpelly crossed the finish line in a made-for-advertising TRG one-two to stand on top of the GTC podium in the American Series presented by Tequila Patron Northeast Grand Prix. The race can be viewed on ESPN2 at 1 p.m. ET, today, July 10.

In the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama series also running at Lime Rock, the TRG trio of drivers had a very strong weekend in their two, forty-five-minute races on Saturday.  Dr. Jim Norman finished sixth in the first race and 14th in the second in his No. 11 Parathyroid/TRG/Porsche; Randy Oswald was 11th in the first and came home seventh in the second event driving his No. 14 Verax/TRG/Porsche, and Carlos Gomez took the checker at 22nd in the first race and fifth in the second at the wheel of his No. 75 Capital Managers/Axis of Oversteer/TRG/Porsche.

Team owner Kevin Buckler and teammate Daniel Graeff in their No. 4 Children’s Tumor Foundation/TRG/Porsche GT3 Cup at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California in the Grand-Am Road Racing Series Continental Tire Sports Car Festival Powered by Mazda finished 12th on day.  The duo’s success was further measured when they were able to do some fund raising at a charity party hosted by Adobe Road Winery for the Children’s Tumor Foundation on Friday evening high atop the Monterey Marriott.

Steve Bertheau and Ryan Eversley finished the day at Laguna Seca in 11th in their No. 67 Sargent & Lundy/TRG Porsche GT3 Cup capping a strong weekend. The race will be televised on the SPEED Channel, today, July 10 at 4:00 p.m. ET.

Andy Lally driving the TRG Motorsports No. 71 Cool Works Cup/Ford Fusion in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway soldiered through the last lap cautions to bring the blue Ford home in 32nd place. The finish gives the team valuable points toward getting back into the top 35.

Team owner, Kevin Buckler is ecstatic over how successful the weekend was on every level. “It was a great weekend on all fronts,” Buckler said.  “Dion, Mike, Duncan and Spencer were the big winners for us taking an excellent one-two finish at Lime Rock.  The guys out there had the strategy down and the drivers did a great job to keep the cars clean and on the track to bring home the first place hardware.  Our IMSA Cup drivers also had a successful weekend with Jim, Randy and Carlos having great runs in their two races.  Andy had a good points day for us at Kentucky for his first time seeing that tough track.  At Laguna Seca Steve and Ryan had a very good run, Steve had to learn the track and Ryan was able to help him with some of the nuances of that tough circuit.  For me, it was nice to get back behind the wheel at one of the most historic sports car tracks there is out in Monterey.  Daniel and I would have liked to have had a better finish, but we drove hard and had a great party Friday night, raised some money and more importantly raised awareness for the Children’s Tumor Foundation.  It is amazing that all eight cars in four different series took the checkered flag with barely a scratch.  I am extremely proud of every TRG driver and crew member this weekend.”
