It goes perhaps without saying that the Porsche 917 is the best race car ever produced. It was renowned for winning 2 years in a row 1970, 1971 at Le Mans. One of the outstanding features of the car was the top speed of 395 km/h (246mph) it attained on the Mulsanne straight.

917’s rarely come to market,  and are multi-million dollar pieces of machinery. But now you can have a Porsche 917 of your very own. (Well, sort of…)

Bailey Edwards cars has added the famous Le Mans Winning Porsche 917 to its range of models. These 917 replicas are being produced as close as possible to the original priceless 917 racing cars of the Mid 1960’s and Early 1970’s. The specification to which the cars are being built are based on the original drawings with improvements undertaken encompassing modern materials and equipment to enhance the safety and performance of the car. The cars are being produced to race specification and hence are not suited to be driven on the road. But honestly, wouldn’t this make the ultimate track day car!

The Specification is as follows:

Chassis: Space frame round tube, laser cut and Tig welded.

Suspension: Front: 7075 Billet aluminum uprights. Chrome –moly A arms with Aurora rod ends. Rear:  Cast aluminum uprights. Chrome –moly A arms and trailing rods. Shock absorbers /Dampers: Fully adjustable Bilstein coil- overs.

Brakes: 330mm ventilated discs all round on floating bells. Ap Racing 4 pot calipers.

Rims: Center nut quick tighten16” diameter rear and front suitable for 15” wide rear and 10.5” wide front tires.             

Body: Composite Glass fiber gel coated and painted.

Fuel system: 18 gallon (60 l) bladder fuel tank in aluminum casing with anti –surge foam. Twin high pressure pumps.

Instruments: VDO white dial on black faces.

The Chassis is constructed to install a Porsche 6 cylinder boxer motor in normally aspirated or turbo form, as per the purchaser specification.  The gearbox of choice is the Porsche G50 or G60 type. They even offer a fan kit conversion kit to give it an authentic look!
