Dec. 7, 2010 – After a four-year hiatus, Porsche has announced plans to return to the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2011.

“We’ll have something spectacular to show there. You’ll have to wait and be surprised.” said Hans- Gerd Bode, a spokesman for Porsche in an interview given to Bloomberg. Details are limited and Bode declined to elaborate.

Porsche pulled out of the Detroit auto show in 2007 when the company cut back on its total auto show appearances and decided it wanted to concentrate on events in New York and Los Angeles.  Last year, more than a quarter of the 85,903 Porsche 911s sold worldwide went to America, making it the company’s biggest single market when it comes to sales figures.

Porsche’s Cayman R mid-engine sports car, which sells for $66,300, premiered last month in Los Angeles. The model, which surges to 62 miles per hour in 5 seconds and has a top speed of 175 mph, will be available starting next spring.
