GMG Descends Upon Mid-Ohio With Four Car Assault

Motorsport News

GMG looks to build upon their points lead in the GT category with team owner James Sofronas leading over Patrick Long in the driver standings, as they prepare for rounds 7&8 in the World Challenge Championship being held at Mid-Ohio this coming weekend. James will be helped by teammate and GMG driver Stephen Ruiz and team newcomer Jeff Courtney.

Stephen made his World Challenge debut at Miller Motorsports in May of this year, where he qualified 14th and finished 12th. He will be piloting car # 41, the StopTech/GMG sponsored Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race car this weekend. New to GMG and Porsche Cup Cars, but not to the ultra-competitive series of World Challenge, is Jeff Courtney, hailing from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

“I’m really excited to be hooked up with GMG and James Sofronas for the season. If anyone knows Porsches, it’s GMG,” said Courtney, who expects some early challenges but trusts that the GMG squad will make it an easy transition for him. “It is going to be a tough driving technique transition for me, as I have been driving a Viper for the last four years, but I look forward to the challenge” said Courtney.

It will be an adjustment for Courtney, who will be moving from the high-torque, front engine Viper to the more agile, rear engine Porsche.

“GMG is very excited to have Jeff come onboard and race one of our GMG Porsches,” said Sofronas. “I have been racing with Jeff for many years and have always considered him a professional on and off the track and look forward to racing up front with him.  Jeff has always been competitive in whatever car he has raced but now it’s time for him to do it in a Porsche and we are anxious to get him up to speed.”

Courtney and the GMG Team expect an enthusiastic fan base at Mid Ohio, including long-time sponsors KENDA Tires and their guests. “It will be terrific having our KENDA supporters there again this year,” said Courtney. “They have been a tremendous support for me and I am looking forward to giving them a great race.”
