Four-day Festival to Feature Screening of 1971 Racing Film ‘Le Mans’

Porsche Cars North America will serve as the exclusive automobile sponsor of the fourth annual Turner Classic Movies (TCM) Classic Film Festival. Hosted at six of the most historic theater venues in Hollywood, Calif. from April 25 – 28, the 2013 festival celebrates travel in the movies.

“Le Mans is one of the most well-known touchstones of the Porsche brand in cinema and popular culture,” said Detlev von Platen, president and CEO of Porsche Cars North America, Inc. “Our rich motorsport history, coupled with our return to Le Mans in 2014, made this partnership a natural fit.”

On Saturday, April 27, The Chinese 6 Theatres will screen the film, regarded as one of the best racing movies of all time. Prior to the show, Chad McQueen, son of the late Steve McQueen, and former Porsche motorsport drivers Derek Bell and Vic Elford will share stories about the making of the movie with exclusive festival passholders.

Participation in the TCM Film Fest is part of the automaker’s year-long campaign to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic 911 model, which has defined the Porsche brand since its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1963. The DNA of Porsche’s flagship model can be found in each Porsche vehicle series from the Boxster to the Panamera sports sedan.

The United States is consistently the number one sports car market in the world for Porsche, and nearly two-thirds of the Porsche 911 models that have been sold in the country are still on the road today. Of the more than 820,000 Porsche 911 vehicles that have been produced worldwide, 300,000 have been sold in the U.S.

In 2011, Porsche launched the seventh generation of the 911, featuring improved performance and fuel efficiency, reduced emissions and reduced mass. Sales of the newest generation 911 have been strong, with an increase of 42 percent in the model’s first year. In the first quarter of 2013, 911 sales have increased 36 percent as compared to the same period in 2012.
